If you’ve lived in Northern New York for even a year, you’ve experienced our distinct seasons. Bright spring blooms and greenery seem to bring forth new life, not just to the surroundings, but the people who call NNY home. Then a much-welcomed warm summer leads way to a gorgeous, vibrant fall. With crisp refreshing air, and hues of red, orange, and yellow it's a picturesque scene and a favorite for many.

Just around the corner, without fail, is a longer, whiter winter than most regions experience, but it opens the door to a variety of outdoor activities and experiences. Some of which people travel 100’s of miles to take part in!

The Ice Palace is built each year as part of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, a tradition that dates back to 1897, making it one of the oldest winter festivals in the United States. The carnival features a wide range of events, including sporting competitions and contests like ice skating races, curling, and even a ladies frying pan toss.

With an abundance of remote and rural settings, connected by quaint towns and tight knit, but welcoming communities, there is a strong sense of tradition and culture here.

Along with Maryland and Virginia, New York is known as the heartland of lacrosse within the US. A strong sense of culture is evident through the presence of many high school, college, and competitive lacrosse programs. 

Did I mention how much there is to do and see in every season? 

The Adirondack Park has over 2,000 miles of trails including the famous High Peaks where hikers can explore mountains, forests, and lakes. In the winter there is still an abundance of activities from skiing and snowboarding, to snowshoeing and ice climbing.

In the summertime the Thousand Islands come to life! Water activities are abundant from boat touring to kayaking, canoeing, and fishing charters.

Many of the counties in our region host extensive ATV and snowmobile trails. The trails connect to local businesses providing convenient stops for food and drink, fuel, and lodging. 

We are also home to Fort Drum and The 10th Mountain Division which plays a huge role in our surrounding communities both socially and economically. Fort Drum is one of the largest employers in Northern New York, providing jobs for 1,000’s of civilians and contractors.

Its presence also boosts our local economy from real estate to health care, and small businesses. Today it is home to over 15,000 service members who are an integral, valued part of our surrounding schools and communities.
